JOB PURPOSE (MISSION) Assist the Director of Government Affairs, EMEA in developing and communicating the Company’s policies and positions with relevant stakeholders. Manage the Company’s political involvement programs including grassroots outreach. KEY RESULT AREAS Advocacy • Assist the Director of Government Affairs, EMEA in all Covidien advocacy efforts before all relevant country specific government legislatures and regulatory ministries/agencies. • Participate in advocacy efforts before government bodies of the European Union. • Participate in trade association efforts in specific EMEA countries and within the European Union (Eucomed). Grassroots • Determine appropriate grassroots communication strategies including timing, targeting and messaging. • Develop and administer a grassroots program across EMEA that communicates Covidien’s policy objectives. • Disseminate timely and accurate communications to employees educating them about critical political issues and direct employees to communicate with their own government officials to seek support of company positions. Internal Communications Communicate regularly with Covidien employees on legislative, regulatory and political activities which can impact business growth through vehicles such as newsletters, e-mails, presentations and Intranet websites. • Produce articles/presentations for publication. • Identify and monitor public issues that impact Covidien business strategies and devise a communications strategy that succinctly transmits key information to employees. • Supply content to the government affairs website. Additionally • Support the identification of emerging issues for the company in public policy and government affairs. Tracking and management of the external issues management process. • Support the Government Affairs function in a variety of ad hoc activities and additional duties as and when required.

Requirements
EXPERIENCE / KNOWLEDGE • 2-3 years of grassroots and advocacy experience • Knowledge of political process and public policy issues • Strong written and verbal presentation skills • Ability to think strategically and innovatively with minimal supervision • Ability to manage complex projects to successful completion within agreed upon timeframes • Computer literate – excellent skills in Microsoft Office. EDUCATION / SPECIAL ATTAINMENTS • Educated to degree level, or equivalent • Good command of English language. Interviews will be conducted in English as the common language of the Company • Fluent in 1 other required European language preferred. CLOSING DATE: Friday 8th January 2010
