MBI is a global specialty chemical business with a well developed reputation for its high standard of quality products that are delivered on time while meeting regulatory standards. As MBI expands its global reach, both localization of supply as well as low cost country sourcing will be critical to remain competitive with our regional/global competitors. The initial focus will be to localize Asia manufacturing either through acquisition and/or contract manufacturing. Additionally, to focus on identifying opportunities to reduce cost in other regions of the world through Asian raw material sourcing or contract manufacturing. The Manager of Sourcing and Contract Manufacturing is accountable for leading the sourcing and the development of strategic suppliers and third party contract manufacturing in Asia. They will improve MBI’s negotiating position through improving relationships with strategically aligned suppliers, creating opportunities for leverage, and working collaboratively to create improvements in sourcing. SUMMARY OF POSITION: To develop and implement sourcing strategies that are aligned with MBI strategies for cost, quality, risk mitigation, and performance. Actively collaborate with R&D/Marketing on new product development to optimize raw material selection for new products to minimize supply risk/cost while meeting quality/process capability requirements. Manage the execution of sourcing supporting MBI product development: meeting sample quality and cost targets. To develop “should-cost” models for critical raw materials to support negotiations and develop strategic sourcing processes that are efficient and effective in setting specifications, recommending final supplier selection and extracting value from the supply line. Must manage non-Asian contract manufacturers to achieve continuous improvement in quality, service, innovation, cost, and negotiate contracts with suppliers and contract manufacturers. Must negotiate contracts with suppliers and contract manufacturers to develop strategic supply partnerships that support corporate strategies. Must collaborate with operations, marketing, R&D, finance, and logistics to achieve corporate strategies, goals, and objectives. The person in this role must be the expert for sourcing new raw materials. Essential Functions: 1. Identify materials and manufacturers that will support MBI’s new product portfolio. 2. Develop, maintain, and execute sourcing strategies for raw materials without standard industry specifications. 3. Develops new suppliers to gain alignment with MBI’s direction on quality, cost, innovation, and service. Collaborates with R&T to ensure new suppliers meet requirements. 4. Analyze the global supply landscape, lead market analysis and supplier identification. Utilizes this information early in the product development process to ensure new products have least cost, min supply chain risk, and quality raw materials. 5. Support business case development through cost modeling for supply. 6. Ensure success of commercialization by choosing suppliers that meet the needs of the business now and in the future. 7. Collaborate with Manager Contract manufacturing to establish global contract manufacturing policies for standardization; monitors to ensure use as intended. 8. Collaborate with commodity managers on negotiating strategies utilizing should-cost models. 9. Negotiate and establish supply agreements to ensure competitive raw material pricing, appropriate service, quality, and continuous improvement. 10. Lead contract negotiations and resolution of contract issues. 11. Develop risk mitigation plans for key commodities; collaboratively execute. 12. Lead the efforts to resolve supply issues, price, and quality risks to maintain business continuity. 13. Understand market conditions for key commodities and feedstock drivers; take necessary action. 14. Ensure contract execution and compliance with MBI Contract
Requirements
Education: Bachelors degree required, preferably in Engineering, or Science; Masters/MBA desirable Experience: • Minimum 10 years relevant experience • Strong preference to individuals with experience in a chemical manufacturing environment. • Strong preference for individuals with contract negotiation experience • Six Sigma green belt is desirable. Preferred Skills/Qualifications: • A reliable and cost effective sourcing process requires this role to be filled with someone with a strong knowledge of the chemistry and chemical manufacturing, business acumen, and successful negotiation experience Skills/Competencies: • Demonstrates a strong drive for results. • Supplier Management/Project Management experience. • Ability to coordinate multiple tasks. Other Skills: • Collaborates productively as a team member.
